NBA Experience

Last night Aaron and Tara treated us to a fun date night! We had dinner and then went to a Pacers game. This was my first NBA game ever! (Grandma Wez would be so proud.) We had amazing court side seats, it was crazy! Thanks, Aaron!

Princesses on Ice

Samantha turns 4 this month. This year she opted for taking three of her friends to see Disney's Princesses on Ice as her party.

For the invitations, we went quite literal. I got some Princess dolls (like polly pockets) and froze them in a block of ice.

We put the ice in a Princess party bag, tied it up, and delivered it to each of the girls with their invitation. So each girl received a Princess on Ice, inviting them to Princesses on Ice. (I thought it was quite clever.)

The night of the party we quickly ate, did birthday cake and then rushed out the door to get to the show on time. We ran out of time so Sammy opened the gifts in the car on the way there.

Once we got there it was a Princess Extravaganza!. All the girls wore Princess dresses and every little girl there was dressed also as a princess. All the girls were so good. They were completely taken in by all the skating and costumes and music. It was just so fun! Even for me since a good friend came along. That ended up being a huge blessing because when we left, there was freezing rain. It was so nice to have an extra pair of hands. We each grabbed two little girls and made a mad dash for the car.

We got all 4 girls home tired but in one piece. What a fun way to spend Samantha's 4th birthday!

Ballet Class

Samantha started dance class this week. She was so excited. She was especially thrilled because she gets to go to class with two of her friends.

It was fun getting her ready. Everything was the coolest to her. She couldn't wait to put on the outfit. She even loved doing her hair in a bun.

I'm not sure she'll get a whole lot from the experience, given the fact she's only three; but at least she'll get a fun experience.

Spiritual Giant, Little Man

I've said it before, but Brandon amazes me with his depth and spiritual understanding at such a young age. Tuesday we were driving to Preschool and out of nowhere he said, "Mom, I decided I'm going to forgive Sam for what I said." I was perplexed and asked what he was talking about. Turns out that his friend had torn his paper boy he made in class and in a moment of anger Brandon told him they weren't friends anymore. I told him I was glad he was going to forgive Sam, and that that was the right thing to do. Then he told me he was going to apologize (his word, not mine) to Sam, too. I asked why and he replied, "cause I think I hurt his feelings."

I always knew that being a mom would be amazing and rewarding, but I completely underestimated how much I would learn from these little children that I am privileged to raise. My cup runneth over.

My Sundays used to be relaxing. Alas, no more. I got a new calling and now I feel like I run around during church with my head cut off. Not a great feeling. But thank heavens for good friends. These were dropped off at my house tonight.

Made me feel loved and was just the treat to turn this day around.

First Snow

This winter has been quite the contrast from last year. But two days after Christmas we got our first real snow fall. I love having four seasons again. Doesn't the fresh blanket of snow make everything so beautiful?

Today was Brandon's first day of basketball. He loved it!!! He and three of his friends signed up. Today they practiced dribbling, passing, and shooting. Check out the form!

New Years Eve

We had fun ringing in the New Year. Our festivities began that morning when we went to the Children's Museum to do the countdown to 12 noon. The girls each brought a friend. The museum was giving away hats and horns.

All the kids got to record the countdown that the museum played. They made horns at the dinosaur exhibit and at 12 noon, confetti rained down on them! It was super fun. I think we have a new tradition!

That evening the celebration continued with the Dockters. The adults tried a new restaurant, Recess, and then we picked up kids and went back to their house for some more fun. Lindsay went all out with decorations and special prizes for every hour until the new year. She even made these cute crackers that when you broke open, Hershey kisses spilled out--that way everyone got kissed at midnight. Amazingly, all the kids from both families made it to midnight!

Christmas

This year was a lot of fun. We were fortunate that we stayed focused on the Savior and at the same time were able to enjoy the company of friends and family. Here are some of the highlights of our holiday.

Christmas Eve at the Daleys...

Christmas Day the kids broke a record and woke up the earliest time ever, 5:30! The upside was that there was enough time to open gifts and have our special breakfast and still get ready and to church early. Phew!

Go Colts!

Our good friend, Eric scored 4 tickets to a Colts game a couple weeks ago. It happened to land on the same weekend as Indy Bus Tour. Brandt was supposed to speak the day of the game, but was able to move his presentation to Saturday night, thereby freeing him to go to the game with his friend. It is a testament to what you can do when you are highly motivated. Brandt brought Brandon and Eric brought Sam for some good old fashion father-son bonding.

Brandt said the boys loved watching the players run out on the field. They also, thought the huge American flag was pretty cool.

High Stakes

My grandparents have had this game since I was a small child. Somehow it has endured the ages and now my girls love to play it. Essentially there is a metal ball that sits on 2 metal rods. The rods are on a a slight upward angle. The goal is to get the ball as high up as you can and drop it in the point circles. the further you can make the ball travel the higher the points. The last 2 circles are 500 and 1000, incredibly difficult to get these. Brianna was playing and got 500 points. Brandt accused her of cheating and bet her $100 she couldn't do it again, with him watching. She got it again, but he looked away. I vouched for her but he was incredulous so he doubled or nothing her. She did it again and won $200!!! You can see the sheer joy on her face!

Family Ski Day

Brandt and I started having kids so quickly after we married that I've had a diaper bag on my shoulder and an infant in my arms for the last twelve years. As much as I miss the baby phase, I am growing to love this new phase. We took the kids to Brighton for Family Ski Day. Everyone including Sam was on skis. And it was so fun for everyone to be participating and enjoying the same activity!

We put the three oldest in lessons. Samantha was just shy of the age minimum. Brandt and I took turns with Sammy on the bunny slope. She had a toe clip that helped a lot, but it was amazing how much she learned so fast and so young. She kept wanting to go faster and further, but stopping was hard for her. Luckily Tom and Molly came to be spectators. So, we put them to work. Tom was the official catcher. We point Sam down the bunny slope and Tom would stop her at the bottom. It was hillarious! My favorite was watching her lean her entire body to try to turn the skis. Brandt even took a run with Samantha. He had to ski backwards to keep her from speeding away, but she loved it!

Brandon was supposed to be in a group lesson but ended up with a private one on one lesson for the group price! Love that! He was the first of all the kids to get on the hill.He mastered the "pizza" and "french fries" pretty quick. Half way through the lesson I was talking to his instructor and he kept interrupting. When I finally asked him what he wanted to tell me he said, "Mom, this is my thing." He kills me. Brandt also made me laugh when the three of us were skiing together. Brandon was going down completely unaided. Brandt was so proud and with a goofy grin on his face said, "I'm so happy!"

Hailey and Brianna were in the same class together. And even though Hailey said on the drive up that she was scared to try, she and Brianna both did amazing! They had the biggest smiles on their faces all day. I know it was because they were having fun but I think it was also in part because they were proud of themselves. The only time I didn't see them happy was when we told them it was time to head home.

Visiting Grandparents

I couldn't go all the way to Utah and not see my grandparents. Both my Dad's parents are in their nineties but incredibly independent and energetic. In November, my 92 year-old grandpa beat his two sons golfing! This might tell more about his sons golf ability than Grandpas, but still.

My Mom's mom, Grandma Wez, had heart surgery at the end of October. she also lives alone so, I made time to stop and see her every day. I never got to stay too long, but I was thankful for every visit. We even convinced her to go to dinner with us one night.

Evan & Erin's Wedding

The youngest in Brandt's family got married Saturday in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. We really like Erin. She'll make an awesome addition to the Adams family.

After the wedding, Tom & Molly hosted a dinner for close friends and family. Brandt toasted the couple. It was nice because he mentioned Poppy in the toast and we were all thinking about him a lot that day.

Afterwards was the reception. The food was great, everything was beautiful, but oh my the receiving line was long. They stood there shaking hands for over 2 hours!!

Brandt's Snow Day

Thursday afternoon we flew out to Utah for Evan's wedding. Brandt hasn't been to Utah in years so, he was excited to make the most of the trip. Friday he and our brother in law, Aaron, headed to Brighton to snowboard. They were gone all day and remarkably they never complained of soreness the next day.

Hailey came home last week all excited about a PTO night where they would have a Gingerbread House contest.She asked if we could participate and we said sure. I was thinking of something you find at the grocery store. Something easy. Not Brandt. He had me make four batches of Gingerbread dough which was then rolled out to create a 2 ft. by 3 ft two story Gingerbread house. Complete with gingerbread furniture, gumdrop chandelier, and gingerbread landscaping. It was fun until Brandt got all critical about support beams and codes...

Sammy's Trip to Urgent Care

Saturday we were cleaning the house. Brandt was mowing the lawn. The girls were blowing leaves and Sammy and Brandon were cleaning their rooms. Or so I thought. It turns out Sammy did not want to pick up toys, rather she wanted a snack. She got an orange and a knife and 10 minutes later we were at Urgent Care getting stitches. She only got three but the interesting part was she insisted on watching everything. The Doctor even made me take pictures on my cell because he had never seen a small child do that before. She is clearly her father's daughter.

My Student Ambassador

Hailey received some very exciting news, she was asked to be a student ambassador to a Europe trip next summer. She will get to visit England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. She was nominated back in October. We went to the parent meeting and Hailey decided she wanted to go for it. She got reference letters from two teachers and a family friend. Then, she interviewed the week before Thanksgiving. Over 300 hundred students were invited to apply, Hailey was one of forty that got accepted. She is so excited. Now the fundraising begins. (I hate this part!) Curse you over achieving child!

Last Monday for family night we put up the tree and decorations. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to this. But I'm proud to say that this year I relinquished control and let the kids decorate the tree. When it was all done it honestly looked the same as every year past. Guess I was being controlling for no reason. Awesome.

I love how much warmer the house looks when it is decked out for the holidays. And I love that the kids get as excited for it as I do. I love this time of year!!!

Circle Centre Lights

The lighting ceremony in Circle Centre is a big deal in Indianapolis. We missed last year so, I figured we would go this year. I did not realize how crazy crowded it would be. Still I was glad to take the kids just to experience it once (no guarantees I'll do it again).

Brandt was gone hunting and Brianna was at a sleepover so, it was just the three other kids and Hailey's friend Kayla. Poor Sammy and Brandon couldn't see anything but people's rear ends, since we were human sardines. The girls took turns giving Sammy a piggyback ride.

And I had Brandon on my shoulders. It was hard work getting the kids to wait the 45 minutes for them to light the tree.

I ended up letting Sammy and Brandon take turns playing games on my phone. Thank you, Brandt for giving me my droid! It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm not a fan of Black Friday. I wish it were based on some principle of commercialism or whatever, but really I just hate crowds. So, Friday instead of hitting the store, I took the kids to the museum. They had decorated for the holidays and everything was so festive. It was a great way to get us in the holiday spirit.

When we were leaving Santa, Sammy said to herself as she shook her head, "Yeah, that's not the real Santa." She makes me laugh.

I love the holidays. I make no apologies for the fact that I am a 35 year old woman who still loves to make green meals on St. Patrick's Day simply because it's fun. So, I was thrilled when we were invited to join in on a friend's holiday tradition of bowling on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, no alleys were open on Thursday, so, Wednesday night we headed out to Turkey Bowl. It was so much fun!!!

I'm thankful for this exercise in gratitude. When I began I thought I would struggle to find something to write about daily. But as I sat down each day to type my post I found it difficult to pick just one thing to focus on. I really learned a lot but recognized even more. I have been immensely blessed. And as we can read in D&C 82:3, Where much is given much is required. I need to do better at doing more for others and sharing all that I have.

I'm Thankful for Grandparents. I was fortunate to have awesome grandparents. The best part is how different they are. I am able to look to both of them for advice and examples but for different things.

My paternal grandparents are simply good people. They are a tremendous examples of being Christ like. Grandma Baugh doesn't teach with words but with love and actions. Meanwhile Grandpa was a no nonsense man. He believes in frugality, saving, hard work, and discipline. No one gets away with anything when Grandpa is around. Together they are an amazing example of how a husband and wife should be. They truly cleave to one another. They do nearly everything together and it has been that way as long as I can remember.

Grandma Wez is a lion in a kitten's body. She is a small petite woman. But she is as strong as a giant. She has been an example of being a strong, capable, intelligent women. As a child I admired her sense of style and confidence. But as an adult I was impressed with her compassion, understanding, and friendship.

My grandparents have been such an important blessing in my life that it makes me want to do all I can to foster that relationship between Brandt and my parents and our children. I wish we lived closer so the kids could spend more time with them. But I'm thankful that my kids have been blessed with grandparents as wonderful as I have.

Adam and I age 3 & 5

This may seem like an obligatory post but, I'm thankful for my brothers. They recently helped my sister move and they went above and beyond their duties, especially Adam.

Gavin was such a great example to me growing up. I looked up to him and he never let me down, well maybe in his Taboo (game) skills, but other than that he's spot on!

Adam and I were great friends growing up. I was the big sister but I know there have been a lot of times the roles were reversed and he was looking out for me. I love that Adam never takes himself too seriously but is very serious about the stuff that truly matters.

Some days you just realize how blessed you are.

Shell and I at GLEE! Still one of the funnest night I've ever had!

I'm coming into my last week of Thankful posts. I couldn't complete this exercise without expressing my gratitude for this lady. We met Shelley and Brandon almost six years ago. We hit it off, and after we knew each other better we realized our husbands were twins separated from birth. Not really, but their personalities are eerily similar. We bonded over this and since our husbands were best friends we ended up doing everything together. There is so much I love about Shelley and so much she has taught me through our association; to be more grateful, to be more patient, how to be christ-like, how to better live the gospel. I'll forever be thankful for her friendship. She is one of the rare friendships that you know you'll have lifelong. To this day I know if I text the word "APPLEBEES", within minutes she would be calling me-- And that is a priceless gift.

Today I'm thankful for my sisters. Friday I got to talk to all three of them on the phone. As I was hanging up Friday night with my last sister I thought how cool it was to talk to all of them in the same day. I know there is some sort of sports analogy for when you accomplish 3 things. Something akin to a turkey in bowling. Curse my lack of athleticism. Anywho, lame as it sounds, I felt like I had won something because I had gotten to talk to all three of my sisters. And in a way, I have. It feels a little like winning the lottery when you get three awesome women to call your sisters. Don't get me wrong, we're all crazy in our own way, but I love them just the same. I hope some day my own girls will feel lucky they have the sisters they do, too.

Friday night Brandt and I went to see Avon High School's Phantom of the Opera. We had set the bar low since it was a high school production, but they actually did a wonderful job! Hailey babysat for us so, we could go out. I'm so grateful that Hailey is old enough to babysit. It has made date nights a lot easier and a whole lot cheaper. But that isn't even the best part. Hailey takes the responsibility so seriously. She works hard to do a good job. Once I came home to a clean home, kids bathed and in bed, and she had even started laundry! I am one proud mama to see how well Hailey is growing and maturing.

Brianna got into books at an early age! She loves books, too!

Tonight was book club. I've been wanting to go for a year, but tonight was the first time I could go. It was so nice to have an intellectual conversation with other adults. I got some great ideas and got to ponder and reflect. On the way home I was thinking that books are something I'm grateful for. I'm thankful for all types of books and for all different reasons. There is something so fulfilling about losing yourself in a good book.

I just got home from cleaning up after our Young Women in Excellence. Our theme tonight was virtue. It is the newest Young Women value and its color is gold. Another woman and I were in charge of decorating. We reused some great ideas from another church function and it made our assignment so much easier. The rest of the evening was divided among all the other women I work with in the Young Women organization. Tonight went really well and I feel blessed to be a part of it all. I'm fortunate that I get to work in this organization but I am really thankful to work with these other amazing women. Seriously, it amazes me how talented they all are. The thought often crosses my mind that if I hang around them enough, maybe some of their great attributes will rub off on me. Alas, it hasn't happened yet, but I'm holding out hope. Until then, I will remain thankful to know and work with some pretty great ladies.

Sammy and I hung out a lot today. Brandon had school and a play date and I really didn't have anything pressing. We played Groovy Girls (they're awesome rag dolls that we love!), made cookies, did school work, and of course watched Dora. With the crazy lives we lead I don't always have the luxury of spending one on one time with my kids. I'm thankful that today I did.

Today I'm thankful for Dentists. Okay, this one is a stretch. Really as I was waiting at the dentist for the third time in a month, I was thinking how much I hated the dentist. But in an effort to remain positive, I thought about it and realized how grateful I am that when we have problems with our teeth, and the pain that often comes with that; that there is a simple (though costly) remedy. Sammy still has to go back one more time, but luckily she is an awesome patient with a large threshold for pain.

Oops, missed yesterday. So yesterday I was grateful for music. Our family LOVES music. We love to sing, dance, etc. Yesterday, there was a beautiful musical number at church and it was so spiritually powerful. I'm thankful for the way music can touch our lives.

On that note one of my favorite stories of Hailey as a child is when she was 5 and we were driving together to school. We were listening to the Wicked soundtrack because I was looking forward to seeing the broadway play. We were listening to the ballad For Good, when I looked in the rearview mirror and saw tears streaming down Hailey's face. I was concerned and asked what was the matter. She responded that the song was making "her heart hurt." I loved that the music was as moving to her as it was to me. And I loved how her little 5 year old mind explained it.

Thursday night we had our first snow flurries. And woke up Friday morning to a dusted white world. It was too light to stick and it melted when the sun rose. But the air has certainly turned colder. The bitter chill reminds me how grateful I am for a nice comfortable warm house.

My Award Winning Kids!

Today I went to Brianna and Hailey's award assemblies at their school. Both got awards for Straight A's and Citizenship. I'm so proud of them both. We expect a lot from our kids. Once they get go to school we expect A's, nothing less. In fact, I don't pay the kids an allowance. I do however, pay for grades. They get a $1 per A and a quarter for E's in behavior areas. Again, they don't get paid for anything less. I think it translates well into the real world. As I have explained it to the girls, school is their job and they'll get paid for a job well done. If they work hard they'll get more money, just like if they work hard in college they'll get a better paying job. And the harder they work at their job, the more likely their pay will increase.

But their second award I feel is just as important. As much as I want them to excel in their studies, I want them to excel in their character. (Again, that is why I only pay for E's). I couldn't be more pleased that both girls were recognized for excellence in Citizenship.

Today I'm thankful for bright kids that work hard. I am a firm believer in education, and what you lack in intellect, hard work can compensate. (Obviously, from my own experience.) But being super smart doesn't hurt and I'm glad my kids tend to take after Brandt in that realm.

Today I'm thankful for modern conveniences. Our dryer went out for a few days and we had to air dry everything. Not a big deal, other than it made all our towels crunchy. Brandt kidded that they were special exfoliating towels. But that mild inconvenience reminded me that dishwashers, washing machines, ovens, etc... make my life so much easier.

I'm thankful for the gospel. My sisters have been going through some heavy stuff lately. How grateful I am for the gospel and the direction it provides us. I think how confused and helpless we would be without it and I feel so blessed to have the fullness of it in my life.

I went to the gym yesterday for a spin class, today I hurt! But it reminds me how thankful I am for a healthy body. I'm actually grateful for the good health of all my family. Other than the periodic cold, we all have been blessed with healthy bodies that function well. What a tremendous blessing this is.

Brandt and I have had some expensive months lately. Traveling to Arizona last month and Utah next month have been draining our wallets. But thinking more positively, I'm so grateful for Brandt's work. He has been really blessed in his endeavors in Indiana. With that I am also very thankful for my brother in law, Aaron. I'll forever be grateful to him for the opportunity to move here and for Brandt to be able to work with him.

It also has pushed me to become a better cook. And I certainly have come along way since we first married. Today I'm thankful that my kids have friends. When we left Arizona it was hard for them to leave friends. And they were worried that they would have difficulty making new ones. A year later all the kids have good friends. I was reminded of this last night when I dropped Brianna at a sleepover and Hailey and Sammy had friends over. When the kids are happy, I'm happy.

Today I'm thankful for Fall. I love four seasons, yes, even winter. But Fall is far and away my favorite. I missed experiencing four seasons when we lived in Arizona. And I love that Indiana has such a colorful Fall. The leaves are gorgeous, the weather is perfect. It just lifts my spirit and reminds me that God loved us so much that he created this beautiful Earth for us to enjoy.

So, I realized I had been negative lately and with thanksgiving coming I thought I should remind myself of all that I'm grateful for. So, I'm going to write one "grateful" post for every day until Thanksgiving. Here it goes...

Today I'm grateful first and foremost for Family. This family, that Brandt and I have created is the best thing that ever happened to me. I feel so privileged to get to raise these 4 amazing children. And getting to do it with Brandt just makes the journey that much funner.

Halloween 2011

We nearly didn't get to celebrate Halloween this year. The stomach flu hit and wiped out a few Halloween parties. Thankfully, everyone was better by Monday night and we were able to trick or treat as a family.

But first, the ward trunk or treat was Saturday. I took the well kids, Hailey was at a birthday party and Brianna was home sick with Dad.

Brandon's Preschool Party...Sammy's day

Today was Brandon's Preschool Halloween Party. We had a lot of fun mixing celebrating with learning. Hopefully, the boys had as much fun as I did. While we worked Sammy got movie time in my room with the door closed. She was so good to not interrupt school that I was surprised when Sam Dockter said, "I'm gonna go scare Sammy." He went and found her, showed her his Darth Vader costume and then sweetly told her to come down and see what they did.

When they were done they went back up where the other boys were. Tommy decided that since most the boys were dressed as some sort of action character that they should play Defend the Fairy. One of the boys asked who would be the fairy, to which Tommy replied, "Sammy." That girl's face lit up and I swear she was grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Brandt and I decided that we were given a little peek into what life will be like when Sam and Brandon are teenagers. But I'm happy to wait a while for those years.

Who's in charge?!

One of my favorite moments today was a conversation I overheard Brandon and Jacob having. Brandon was explaining to Jacob that when Brandt is gone he's in charge because he's the man of the house. Jacob argued that he, too was a man and so he should also be in charge. Brandon explained that since it was his house, he was in fact in charge. Jacob paused, clearly to think it over, and said, "Okay. You're in charge, but I'm second in charge." He then looks over at Max (who wasn't even paying attention to the conversation) and says, "Max you can be next in charge 'cause you're a boy, too." I love when as a mom you can slow down enough to hear and see the discreet things going on around you. I swear a day does not go by that I don't just laugh at the cute things my kids say or do. (BTW, after I took this picture I asked Max why he was making that silly face and he said because he was being a robot. Too funny!)

At dinner I relayed the story and one of the missionaries said that he heard men are like a pyramid. They work best when they know who's at the top and where they belong in the pyramid. And women, he says, are a line. If someone falls below the line, women will pull and lift her up. If a woman gets above the line, then the other women will pull her back down. Interesting, theory.

Sammy's Preschool Halloween Party

Sammy's Preschool Halloween party was Wednesday. All the kids wore their costumes and got to talk about them during Show 'N Tell. There were some pretty funny moments during those explanations.

Sammy was Rapunzel (She started off with her blond wig but decided to switch to short hair Rapunzel when the wig got itchy), Max was Darth Vader, Natalie was a mermaid, Jacob was a ninja, and Eliza was a bumblebee.

We had a costume parade. Natalie really channeled her character because as a mermaid she had a lot of difficulty walking on "human legs."

Boo Zoo

Last night was our Extreme Night for Young Women. We attempted to pull an all nighter reading the Book of Mormon. So, it seemed appropriate for us to go to the Boo Zoo when I was feeling like the walking dead!

Sammy ditched the hair when the wig got itchy. So, when we ran into some friends she explained she was the short hair Rapunzel. She's a funny kid.

They had the Zoo all decorated for Halloween. They had a little Trick or Treating and lots of fun games. Afterward, Brandt treated me a cook-free night. We took the fam and went to Outback!

Fall Break

Unfortunately, Fall Break wasn't during our trip to Arizona. We had to have the girls miss school and then when we got back they only had a couple days of school before Fall Break. Since the girls had Wednesday-Friday off we decided to have some fun!

Thursday, we picked up the Dockter boys and headed to the Mueseum. They got a few new exhibits. The National Geographic Treasures exhibit was a favorite. The kids loved dressing up in scuba gear to explore.

They also had an Egyptian portion of the exhibit.

And an artifact exhibit.

The other new exhibit was the Frog exhibit. Their favorite part was dressing as frogs.

The girls were so helpful. They really make outings like this so much easier.

The next day we went to Waterman's Pumpkin Patch. We met up with a bunch of other families from the ward. The kids had fun playing.

We also took a hay ride and got to pick a pumpkin.

All the Pumpkins were about the same size. But some how Hailey found one on steroids!

Of course, Brianna was jealous.

Another full day of fun. Tomorrow...Boo Zoo!

Desert Fun

Ella's adoption is final, YAY!!! Shelley called a couple weeks ago with the dates for the sealing and blessing and we immediately bought tickets. We flew out to San Diego a couple of days before the sealing and stayed with my parents. We drove out to the beach the first day to visit Maren, and see her new place.

The next day we went to breakfast with Rachael and her daughter. I haven't seen Rach in a year so, I was thrilled to get to see her. She is one of my rare friends that I don't have to talk to daily or see regularly, but that friendship is as strong as when we lived together. I guess that was the theme of this trip. Brandt and I commented countless times on how blessed we are to have so many wonderful friendships and how missed those friendships are.

Anywho, after breakfast we headed for Brandon's parents house in San Diego. It was so great to see the Griffiths and I loved getting to meet Charlie for the first time. That night we went to the warf for dinner. It was freezing and we didn't have jackets so, we bought some souvenir sweatshirts. Which it turns out is expensive to do for a family of 6!

The next day we went to the San Diego Temple for the sealing. When we were leaving the chapel to go to the sealing room we passed the foyer and saw the Ellsworths and Kinseys. We were so excited to see friends. We ran over and greeted them with big hugs. As we were walking up the stairs to the sealing room, Brandt leaned over and whispered, "I bet that's what heaven is like. Everyone all excited to see each other." I hope he's right. The sealing was beautiful and brought back so many memories of our sealing. It was one of my favorite days from that trip.

Sunday was the blessings and luncheon. Brandon did a nice job. Brandt's favorite was that Ella tried to hug Brandt during the blessing and when she couldn't she just rested her head against his chest for the remainder of the blessing. Those 2 have a very special bond. It's really sweet actually.

The next day Brandt went fishing with Keith and Brandon, in Mexico. They got back Wednesday night, safe--but with tales of near death experiences. Not from the drug cartel, like I had feared. But from Keith's driving. Brandt only caught one fish and Brandon caught the biggest.

While the boys were gone Shell and I spent Monday with some friends at the park and went to lunch afterwards. And that night we ate with the Renos and had dessert with the girls at Chillis.

This last year there has been a baby explosion! Brandt and I couldn't get enough of them all.

Tuesday, I went up to Mesa for the day to see my brothers and sister. I couldn't resist seeing them when I was so close. That night we divided and conquered. Kim kept the younger kids and Adam took Brianna and the young girls to see Smurfs.

Gav, Mel, & I took the older kids to see Harry Potter.

Thursday we took the kids swimming at the Stuarts.

Then later Shelley threw a BBQ get together at West Wetlands. A lot of our friends came. It was so fun to see everyone. The kids especially have enjoyed the visit with friends. The girls have had sleepovers with both the Renos and Ellsworths. And Brandon spent a whole day with Connor.

On Monday at the park a couple of 9 year-old boys were picking on Brandon. They threatened him and he ran away (the bruise on his face was from his escape). But instead of running to me he went and got Peyton and Connor. The three of them confronted the boys. They were broken up when Connor was trying to choke one of the 9 year olds! They've learned at an early age to have each other's back. Needless to day, their dads were proud.

Friday Court drove down so, that Brandt could meet Sarah. She was such a sweetie to come just for the day. I wuv her.

That night we had a last hoorah at Blaisdale. Clint brought some sparklers for all the kids and we brought an old range/oven to blow up for old timey sake. Then of course, we played one more night of cards.

Saturday we were off to the airport. It was hard to say goodbye, again. You would think it wouldn't be, but it was. We had such an enjoyable visit. Hopefully we'll get to see everyone again soon.

Since Fall is my favorite season and I so missed it when we were in AZ, I begged her to do them while the leaves were changing. Here are some of the highlights from that shoot. School in Spencer

October is my month to teach Preschool. I decided that one of the days it would be fun to take the boys to the State Park in Spencer to hike and do some hands-on holistic learning.

I drove Brandon, Sammy and the 3 other boys the 45 minutes to the State Park. After parking we headed out on one of the trails. We stopped periodically to do phonics, Math, Reading, Handwriting, Science, and Art. But mostly we talked about what we saw all around us. We discussed the seasons, specifically fall. Why leaves change color. Why moss grows in the woods. How trees grow and how old they are. We collected acorns and caps. And so much more. I loved it. I probably enjoyed it more than the boys, but I'm so grateful for being a stay at home mom. That privlege affords me so many awesome experiences with my kids that I would miss out on otherwise.

Rebel Run

Saturday after my parents arrived, we headed South to Greenfield for a Rebel Run. Brandt and I had signed up for this a while ago, but it worked out perfectly, that Mom and Dad were there to watch the kids and cheer us on. (And Dad was there to be our personal photographer.)

A Rebel Run is a 5k obstacle course designed by Navy Seals and primarily through mud. There were about 20 obstacles throughout the course. And at each obstacle there was someone from the Race cheering you on, and someone in fatigues yelling at you. These Marine types would tell you to hurry, or remind you that you paid money to suffer through this. Mostly they heckled us. On one obstacle we had just finished the ropes course across the river. Drudged back up the river and were now trying to exit the river. The embankment was steep and slimy. To make matters worse, we were already covered in mud. Brandt had climbed out and as I was 3/4 the way up the slope, I slipped. The marines started yelling at me to get up, etc... As I made it to the top my hands were coated in mud. One soldier yelled at me "Good job, now wipe your hands on your shirt and RUN!!!" He was on my left so, I wiped my hand down his crisp clean t-shirt and did as I was told...I ran!

My Parents Visit

It was so nice to have Brandt and my parents here this month. Missing family has been one of the harder adjustments to moving to Indiana. We definitely got our fix this month! Here are some of the highlights of their visit.

wii love parties!

My parents got in late Thursday night, just in time for Brianna's birthday party. She had a big group of girls from church and school. It actually ended up being bigger than I anticipated. About 30 minutes before the party was to start I got a call from a Dad confirming Brianna's party was that night. I said yes, and he said he just wanted to be sure because the information was written down on torn notebook paper. Well, Brianna's invites I made myself on cards and Brianna addressed the envelopes. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Brianna had increased the guest list, unbeknown to me. We ended up with four extra guests. Not a big deal really...just classic Brianna.

She chose to serve pizza, chips, skittles, and ice cream sundaes.

After food, they played Just Dance and Disney Karaoke.

We finished the party with opening presents.

It was really loud in our house for about three hours, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! Phew, I'm tired. Is birthday month over yet?

Brianna's 10!

We celebrated Brianna's birthday in true Adams' family tradition. She chose a special breakfast of chocolate chip scones and a strawberry breakfast shake.

After breakfast she opened a couple presents before school. Brianna really wanted a cell phone for her birthday but we squelched that, much to her chagrin. So, her next big request was for a long board skateboard. She'd been using Brandt's long board for the last year. So, we decided to give in on that request.

She was much more alert and happy after presents!

That evening we had her birthday dinner of ribs and finished opening her presents. Brianna doesn't like traditional birthday cake, this year she opted for cheesecake.

Brianna is a feisty ten year old. She is far more mature than most ten year olds. At times she can really stretch my parenting muscles. But with that maturity also come a unique ability to connect with her. She empathizes in a way none of my other children do. She can see when I am sad or frustrated, and then jump in to ease my burden. She is so sweet with her younger siblings and there is always a fight over who will get to sleep with her on the weekends.

She is athletic and coordinated much like her Dad. She is smart and popular in school. I hope that as she gets older she will use that ability to draw people to her, to also draw people to the gospel. She struggles still with sitting through three hours of church but she asks questions about the gopel that assures me her testimony is still growing and burning. She has so many talents that I can't wait to see what this next year will bring. I love you, bug! Happy Birthday!

Brandt's Birthday

Keeping with tradition, we woke Brandt with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday and his favorite breakfast. Then, he opened a few gifts before heading off to work.

Molly and Tom get in today to help us celebrate his birthday. I'm looking forward to all the fun!

Brandt isn't one to savor all the hooplah, especially if its about him. But I still make a big deal about his birthday because he deserves it. Brandt is a riddle of sorts. He has such a gregarious and outgoing personality yet, he doesn't like people to compliment him (it makes him uncomfortable). He works so hard and plays even harder. He is loud and rough around the edges, unless he is bearing his testimony or speaking of spiritual matters. In that way he is a spiritual giant equal to his physical stature. Don't get me wrong, he still drives me nuts. But I think he is pretty great so I'm grateful for special days like birthdays to show him how we feel.

Hailey's Party

Normally I go all out for birthday parties. Especially for Hailey & Brianna's because their birthdays are close we could do combine parties and get more bang for our buck.

This year they were adament that they were having separate parties. Since, 12 was a big deal, wii agreed.

Hailey invited a few friends from school and church.

wii played Just Dance. These girls knew every move and could definitely hold their own on the dance floor!

We also played Disney's Sing It.

The Tenth Anniversary

This year marked the tenth anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington, DC. There were alot of documentaries and I found myself as glued to the television as I was 10 years ago.

I still remember waking that morning early because I was 38 1/2 weeks pregnant and not sleeping all that great. I sat on the couch and turned on the TV to see a special broadcast that there had been a plane crash into one of the twin towers. My stomache dropped. It was not long after, that I watched another plane fly into the other tower. I remember thinking, "This is no accident, we're under attack!" I woke up Brandt and we spent the rest of the day like all other americans...dumbrfounded, sick, sad, and scared. I couldn't escape the thoughts about what kind of world I was bringing this new baby in to.

Ten years later, I still worry about the world I am raising my four kids in. But I am proud to be an American. I am grateful for the blessing it is to live in this country. And I'm grateful to my Heavenly Father for preserving this land for my children.

Today Hailey turned twelve. It is such a big milestone, especially in LDS culture. I've spent a lot of time recently thinking about how quickly the time is passing. Wondering if I've done enough to prepare Hailey for her teen years. But whether or not I have, Hailey has become an amazing young women. I always tell people that Hailey came that way and as a mom I felt my only job was not to mess her up.

Hailey is smart and beautiful. But her greatest attribute is her generous heart. She is such a kind and thoughtful girl. She is a great example to others, including her own family in this regard.

I'm so thankful that Heavenly Father saw fit to allow me to raise His special daughter. I often feel inept to the task but am grateful that Hailey's other qualities include extremely forgiving.

I love you Hailey. Your Dad loves you. And your Heavenly Father loves you. Thank you for being true to who you are. You have made my life better being your mom. I know your future is bright. Especially if you continue to stay on the straight and narrow path. I hope your birthday is as great as we think you are.

Big Milestones

Twelve is obviously a big birthday. But in our house it's an even bigger deal because you get a lot more privleges, like shaving your legs and clear makeup. Another is that you can choose to get your ears pierced when you're twelve. Hailey decided she wanted to do that and so the night before her birthday we took her. She was so nervous that the lady asked if she was depressed about getting her ears pierced. As part of her gift, today we gave her gem studs in all the Young Women value colors.

Yesterday was Samantha's first day. She also, is in a preschool where me and four moms rotate teaching. She was thrilled to go to school, "just like Hailey and Brianna."

This year myself and three other moms are teaching Brandon's preschool. We each teach a month at a time. The boys go twice a week and they are beyond excited!

On the way to school Brandon said he wanted to be surprised. He closed his eyes and told me to tell him when we got to school. He is such a wierd duck!

Memorial Day

Today we went to Spencer, Indiana to go hiking with our friends the Baileys. We've lived here for a year but we still haven't ventured very far into Indiana. Today turned out to be a gorgeous day to be outdoors. It was cooler than it has been. The temperature and all the leaves, really made it feel like Fall.

The kids had fun exploring, finding acorns, crossing creeks, and exploring caves. It was funny to see the kids exploring caves with smart phones as flash lights. That's how we know they are children of the tech age!

We had lunch at a playground and then our last stop was the Falls.

The Falls weren't as impressive because we have had very little rain, and excessive heat. But it was still picturesque.

Later that day we barbequed with some more friends and played cards. It was a wonderful way to spend the holiday.

I told Brandon he could have some cake it he ate all his lunch. While I was putting laundry away he came and reported he was done with his lunch and asked if he could have some cake. I told him yes. But by the time I got downstairs I had found that Brandon had already cut and ate his own piece! I was sure he'd be sick later, but alas no natural consequence.

Indiana State Fair

The Indiana State Fair is a big deal around here. It lasts a week, it's the largest in all the country, and there are as many kinds of fried foods as there are stars in the sky. We missed it last year with moving and starting the bussiness. But his year we took all the kids to experience the Fair.

It was a hot day but the kids didn't mind. They were content to ride ride after ride. Brandon and Sammy were tall enough to ride a lot of rides. Since Brandon is tall for his age he got to ride some rides he maybe shouldn't have. He really wanted to ride the Parasailing ride. So we let him, knowing that he is afraid of heights. He looked pretty freaked until about halfway through the ride.

We tried to keep cool by checking out the animals and displays. I preferred the displays. The animals were stinky.

After having what seemed an endless summer of heat and humidity,we finally got a reprieve. With cooler temps we decided to join Brandt on one of his morning bike rides on the Plainfield trails.

Sammy got her first bike this summer. Her first lesson was slightly frustrating (for me), because she would pedal once or twice and then brake hard. But today she was a rockstar! Though slow, she biked a mile and a half!

Brandon thought he was a speed demon! He kept leaving Sammy in the dust.

Hailey and Brianna have always enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Hailey especially, has a talent for art. So, a few months ago I purchased a Groupon for a children's art class. The girls picked a day and we took them last Saturday.

In true Sister Rivalry fashion they had to make theirs each unique and unlike the others. Hailey chose to add some green so that it would better match her room. I thought they both turned out GREAT!

Plainfield Triathalon

Brandt willingly endured physcial abuse today in the form of a triathalon. While I was in Utah this summer Brandt bought a road bike. He'd been logging a lot of time on it when he decided to do another tri. We found this one nearby and he signed up for it.

Even though he says he nearly drowned, he did great. Whatever time he lost on the swim he made up on the bike.

And the last event was the run and he did 10 minute miles.

The kids and I were all there to cheer him on along the way. We're proud of you, Dad!!!

I know we just went last week, but the girls are in school and when I got invited to go with a bunch of other moms in the ward...well, when have I ever said no to a party?!

BTW Samantha and Brandon had as much fun with their friends as I did. They evern got to bring home one friend each for a play date. Fun times!

Haircuts and Hearthrobs

We did Back to School haircuts this week. Sammy wanted to cut her hair short. After she got it cut, I gushed over how beautiful she looked. To which she said, "If Sam tells me I'm beautiful, I'm gonna kiss him." I asked Sam, who and then realized she meant Brandon's best friend Sam Dockter. Brandon came to the same realization and said "Are you in love with Sam Dockter?" Sammy smiled slyly and said yes.

What the?! My three year old is growing up far too fast. I blame her older sisters and the Disney Channel!

Wet and Wild at the Zoo

We've had a busy summer and the last couple weeks were no different. We decided to help Brandt with a project. Mostly we thought it a good opportunity to teach the kids a work ethic. But school starts next week so we're trying to get ready for that and end the summer with a bang. Today Brandt and I took the kids to the Zoo. The kids had been wanting to try out their splash zone.

We ended at the Dolphin Show. Brandt had never seen it. Then, home for lunch. I love having a pass to the Zoo. The kids always seem to do better with shorter trips (Mom, too!). And on days like these, it is the perfect mini outing.

Nauvoo and Carthage

Today we decided to head back and hit a few more sites in Nauvoo. Connie and I wanted to see the Mansion House and The Smith Homestead but you had to take the RLDS tour. So, the boys agreed and we did that. Most of the tour Brandon walked ahead with the tour guide, peppering him with questions about Joseph Smith. It was so cute!

Then, Catie wanted to get a prarie ring so we went to the Wagon shop. There they told the story of the saints who were poor or didn't have time to find rings so, they would fashion a ring out of a nail and give it to their intended. These rings became known as Prarie Diamonds.

That was our last stop and then we left for Carthage. Brandon is fascinated by the martyrdom so, he was most excited about going there. I think taking the tour and seeing it all first hand, realized the stories from church history for all the kids.

The Osbornes came back to Indy with us and stayed the night but unfortunately, they were off again the next day. Though the time was short it was so fun to get to spend time with good friends that we have missed.

Nauvoo with the Osbornes

We have been looking forward to Nauvoo all summer. The girls finished their books. The Osbornes left Arizona and were driving in. We beat the Osbornes there so, the kids enjoyed playing games while we waited for our friends.

Once we met up with the Osbornes we went to the Gunsmith Shop, home of the Browning family, and Brandt's favorite venue.

We spent the rest of the day taking in shows and sightseeing.

My favorite was the Graveyard near the edge of town. There was such a strong spirit, you knew you were on hallowed ground. It was interesting to watch my kids demeanor change once we entered the grove where the graves were. Without even discussing it they immediately began to behave more reverently.

I loved this message.

We ended the day at the Pageant. While we were waiting for it to start I was talking to a cast member who ended up being my friend, Bri's, cousin. Small world.

Brandt loves bagpipes so, he was thrilled when they came in playing We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet.

Family Home Evening Fun

You know all those old games you used to play as a child? TV tag, kick the can, etc... Well, we wanted to teach them to our kids. So, we invited 6 other families for a FHE game night. Since the Martins lives in a cul de sac we ended up having it there. We played Missionary Tag, Red Rover, and Kick the Can. Afterwards, root beer floats!

Girls Camp

I went to Girls Camp today. This year our stake selected women throughout the stake as camp leaders which meant we only had to go up for Testimony meeting. It was fun to drive up with the other women I serve with. There are some pretty amazing women in the church. And the best way I've found to know who they are is to serve with them.

Fun Run

This weekend was the one mile fun run. I love having active activites for my kids to do. First, it teaches them healthy habits. Secondly, it fills the day. Third, it wears them out!

All 4 kids were supposed to run but Brianna sprained her ankle trying to do a back flip (It's all Brandt's fault!). So, she hung out on the sidelines.

A bunch of other families from our ward were there. Brandon was thrilled to have some friends to race with.

Ogre Teeth

Brandon had a friend over shortly after we got back from Utah. I was unpacking and heard them playing the piano. I went downstairs to tell them the piano wasn't a toy. Sammy met me at the stairs to show me the Ogre teeth. I thought "oh, how creative." Until I reached the living room and found Brandon's friend hitting the piano keys with a plastic ax and breaking off the ivory to make said teeth! Pianos are just possessions, right?! Maybe now I'll get a new piano sooner rather than later.

Fireworks

After the Reunion we took all the kids to see Mr. Popper's Penguins. It's actually a pretty cute movie. When we got out it was dusk so, we went to Molly's to set off fireworks.

Earlier in the day Jonny and I had gone and bought a bunch of fireworks.

The kids loved it and I loved having all my sisters with me.

Near the end it started to rain, but all in all a pretty perfect night.

Baugh Family Reunion

After the Parade we headed to the Annual Baugh Family Reunion. Every year all the extended family get together to barbeque and visit. Certain things are definitely tradition. The menu is always hamburgers and hot dogs.

Aunt Julie always makes her famous homemade root beer.

There are always races. Brandon who LOVES running was thrilled to learn this tradition. He competed in every age group. He was even content to lose against the older kids because the consolation prize was a lollipop. After the races were through Brandon wanted to race more. He asked Grandpa to race. Grandpa cannot ever tell Brandon no. I believe Brandon is quite litterally my Dad's achilles heel. So my 60+ Dad raced my 5 year old. When Brandon won he asked my Dad for his prize (a lollipop). Grandpa gave him a $1. Brandon kept pestering everyone to race for a full hour after he learned that winning could be lucrative.

This year I let the older girls sneak away to the water slides at Scera Park. I didn't let the youngers go because it was too crowded and I was still on edge from the parade.

Fortunately, Uncle Jonny did some bonding time with Brandon. Part of the park was converted to a Colonial Village. Jonny is a History buff and Brandon was starving for some male interaction, so it was a perfect match. They were gone for nearly an hour. Jonny snapped these cute pics.

4th of July Conffessions

I'm taking a huge risk blogging about this next story. I've still not told Brandt, but he doesn't read my blog so I think I'm in the clear.

Yesterday we went to church with my mother in law. My two sisters and their families came, too. After Sacrament they both decided to leave. I contemplated going with them to visit Wez, but decided I should stay for all three meetings.

Today we went to the Provo 4th of July Parade. If you've ever been you know how crazy crowded it is. We met all our family and extended family on Center Street at my cousin's house. We'd been standing in the sun watching for awhile when I noticed that my kids were looking pretty red faced. I farmed out the kids to relatives and walked a few blocks to get water.

When I got back all my kids were accounted for except Sammy. I asked Jen where she was and she said she didn't know, she had gotten off her lap and walked towards the other kids. I frantically searched through the sea of people and quickly realized she was gone.

I gathered my immediate family and began ordering them to spread out and help me find her. As I'm describing her outfit a man walks up and said "Is this your daughter?" There was Samantha. His next question surprised me even more, "Are you Molly's daughter?"

Apparently Sam had wandered just one house over went up to this man's wife and said I can't find my mom. His wife was Samantha's Nursery teacher yesterday at church. Sammy must have recognized her, and this woman looked down and said "Are you Sammy?" She said "Yea, and I can't find my mom."

It has not escaped me that a miracle occurred. Sam recognizing someone she only met a day before, for the first time. The fact that this other family was even there and in such close proximity to our group. Miracles do happen. Heavenly Father is mindful of us every hour, of every day. I feel so blessed. And I realize the importance of being where you're supposed to be when you are supposed to be. Had I not stayed for all three hours of church, I shudder to think how differently today may have gone.

Birthday Boys

While we were staying at Mamoo's Casey and Tommy came for a visit. And since, Brandon and Tommy have very close birthdays we did special cupcakes to celebrate. I was glad we got to see Aaron's boys, even if it was only a short time.
